“But now that you have been set free from sin and have become servants of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.” Romans 6:22
Freedom is a powerful word. We often think of freedom as being released from something that has restricted, controlled, or imprisoned us. Spiritually, freedom means that through Christ, we are no longer bound by the power of sin, guilt, shame, fear, or our past. Yet I have discovered that being set free and walking in freedom are not always the same thing.
Christ may have already broken the chains, but sometimes I continue carrying the memory of them. I revisit past mistakes, hold on to guilt God has already forgiven, or allow fear to keep me from moving forward. I may know that I am free, yet still live as though I am bound.
Romans 6:22 reminds me that through Christ, I have been set free from sin. My old life no longer has the final word over me. My mistakes do not define me. My failures do not own me. The opinions of others do not determine my worth. Jesus paid the price so that I could live a new life in Him.
But walking in freedom is a daily decision. Every day, I must choose whether I will believe what God says about me or return to the thoughts that once held me captive. I must choose faith over fear, forgiveness over bitterness, obedience over old habits, and grace over condemnation.
Freedom does not mean that temptation, struggle, or painful memories suddenly disappear. It means those things no longer have authority over my life. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, I can respond differently. I can pray instead of panic. I can forgive instead of holding on to resentment. I can move forward instead of remaining trapped in what happened yesterday.
The children of Israel were delivered from slavery in Egypt, but their thinking did not change overnight. Whenever life became difficult, they wanted to return to the place God had freed them from. Egypt was painful, but it was familiar.
Sometimes we do the same thing. We return to familiar attitudes, relationships, habits, and ways of thinking because freedom feels unfamiliar. Yet God did not bring us out so that we could keep looking backward. He calls us to trust Him and walk forward.
Jesus declared, “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36). Today, I am reminding myself that I do not have to live beneath the weight of what Christ has already removed. I can walk with my head lifted, my heart open, and my steps guided by grace.
Freedom in Christ is not permission to live carelessly. It is the power to live differently. It is freedom to love, forgive, grow, serve, heal, and become the person God created me to be.
Pearl's Prayer:
Lord, thank You for setting me free through Jesus Christ. Christ has already broken the chains. Freedom begins when I stop reaching for them and choose to walk forward in grace. So Father help me release guilt, fear, bitterness, and every habit that keeps me bound. Renew my mind and teach me to walk daily in the freedom You have given me. Let my life reflect Your grace, holiness, and love. Amen.

Thank you for this message as it brings me back into focus. Freedom is mine. I simply must choose it constantly.
Thank you for highlighting that living free is a daily choice. I will be adding the desire to walk in God’s freedom for me to my daily prayer.
This is my favorite line "Freedom does not mean that temptation, struggle, or painful memories suddenly disappear. It means those things no longer have authority over my life." I will reflect on this today!!
What a beautiful word this morning. God is so faithful
