“Freely ye have received, freely give.” Matthew 10:8
Every year, my comfrey returns. I do not have to beg it to come back. I do not have to replant it from scratch. It rises again, multiplies itself, and somehow becomes a blessing to everything around it.
In my garden, comfrey is not just there for beauty. It serves a purpose. It grows strong, spreads, and then gives back. The leaves become nourishment. I use it to provide nutrients for my trees. What grows in one place helps strengthen another.
That speaks to my spirit. Some plants are not only meant to bloom; they are meant to feed. Some gifts are not only meant to be admired; they are meant to strengthen others. And some of us, after years of being cut back, overlooked, or stretched thin, discover that God has placed something in us that can nourish the people and places around us.
Sometimes we look at our lives and say, “Lord, I do not have much left. I have been cut back. I have poured out. I have been through winter. I have given and given.” But God sees what remains and says, “Bring it to Me.”
He knows how to multiply what we surrender. Comfrey teaches me that multiplication happens quietly, underground, season after season. Roots deepen. Leaves return. New growth appears. And before long, what started as one plant becomes enough to help feed many trees.
Isn’t that how grace works? God strengthens us, then uses us to strengthen others. He comforts us, then sends us to comfort someone else. He feeds us with His Word, then allows our testimony to become nourishment for another soul.
But there is also wisdom in this plant. Comfrey must be managed. What is fruitful still needs boundaries. What multiplies still needs direction. Even good things can become overwhelming if they are not tended.
That is the wellness lesson. We can give, but we must also rest. We can nourish others, but we must also stay rooted in God. We can multiply in service, but we cannot forget the Source of our strength.
Today, ask yourself: What has God grown in me that can feed someone else? What wisdom, comfort, encouragement, or testimony can I offer? And where do I need healthy boundaries so that giving does not become depletion?
Your life may be more nourishing than you realize. When God grows something strong in you, He often uses it to strengthen what is around you.
Pearls Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the gifts You have planted in me. Help me to recognize what You are growing through my life. Teach me to give freely, but also wisely. Let my words, my testimony, my service, and my presence become nourishment to others. Keep me rooted in You, so that what flows from me is healthy, life-giving, and full of grace.
Amen.
I am the Vessel, God is the Grace.
