"What Are You Feeding Yourself? "

Published on May 6, 2026 at 4:00 AM

“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”  3 John 1:2

I was tending to my fruit trees the other day, checking the soil, adjusting what each one needed and I realized something I couldn’t ignore. Every tree in my yard required something different to thrive. Not just water, not just sunlight, but specific care. It made me pause and ask myself, am I giving my body and mind the same level of intentional care? Wellness is not just about doing something,
it’s about doing what your body actually needs.

My lemon tree needed more nitrogen. The blueberries needed acidic soil. The peaches, apples, cherries, plums, and persimmons, each one had its own requirement for producing good fruit. Same yard. Same sun. Same rain. But different needs. And I thought… we are not that different.

Sometimes we try to apply the same routine to every part of our lives, push through the exhaustion, ignore the signals, keep going. But just like those trees our bodies and minds speak. Fatigue is a signal. Stress is a signal. Lack of focus, irritability, restlessness, they are all indicators that something needs attention.

You cannot expect to produce peace if you are constantly feeding yourself pressure. You cannot expect clarity if your mind never rests. You cannot expect strength if your body is always depleted.

Your life is a garden. Your body is the soil. Your thoughts are the seeds. Your habits are the nutrients. Whatever you consistently give attention to, will grow. If you nourish yourself with rest, balance, and intentional care, you begin to see strength, clarity, and calm emerge. If you neglect what your body needs, the signs will eventually show. Just like in the garden.

Wellness is not about doing more, it is about paying attention. It is learning to ask: What do I need in this season? Not what worked before. Not what works for someone else. But what is required for you to be well.

Today, take a moment to tend to yourself the way you would your garden:

  • Pause and breathe deeply, slow your pace

  • Drink water, restore what has been depleted

  • Step outside, even briefly and reset your mind

  • Check your thoughts, what have you been feeding your spirit?

  • Give yourself permission to rest without guilt

Small adjustments, lead to healthy growth.

That day in the garden reminded me that growth doesn’t happen by accident. It happens through attention, care, and consistency. Just like those trees, when you give yourself what you truly need, you don’t just survive, you begin to thrive.

Pearl's Prayer:

Lord, help me to care for the body and mind You have given me. Teach me to recognize what I need in each season and give me the discipline to respond with wisdom. Restore what has been depleted, calm what has been overwhelmed, and strengthen what has grown weak. Help me to honor You not only in my spirit, but in how I care for myself each day.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
