"When Your Mind Won't Be Still"

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”   Philippians 4:6

Have you ever noticed how quiet anxiety can be? It doesn’t always announce itself loudly.
Sometimes it slips in gently… disguised as responsibility. As overthinking. As the need to “just stay on top of everything.” Before you realize it,  your shoulders are tight, your thoughts are racing, and your spirit feels unsettled, even in moments that should feel peaceful.

I’ve had days like that. Days where nothing is technically “wrong”,  but internally, something feels off. My mind keeps running ahead of me, planning, preparing, worrying about things that haven’t even happened. In those moments, I have to pause and ask myself: Am I carrying something I was never meant to hold?

The Bible tells us plainly, “Be anxious for nothing.” Because we were never designed to carry the weight of everything all at once. Anxiety often grows when we try to control what belongs to God.

Recently, I was standing still before the day began. No noise. No rush. Just a quiet moment. Yet, my mind was already full. Running through conversations. Replaying responsibilities. Trying to solve tomorrow before today had even started. That’s when I felt it, that gentle nudge in my spirit: Release it. Not fix it. Not figure it all out.
Just, release it.

From a wellness perspective, we often talk about movement, hydration, nutrition…
But we don’t always talk about mental release. Stress and anxiety don’t just stay in the mind. They settle into the body. In tight shoulders. In shallow breathing. In restless sleep. But God, in His wisdom, gave us a remedy long before wellness became a trend: Prayer. Stillness. Surrender.

There is something powerful that happens when you pause......take a deep breath, and consciously give your thoughts back to God. Not once. But as often as needed. Sometimes wellness looks like a walk. Sometimes it looks like rest. And sometimes… it looks like sitting still and saying, "God, this is too heavy for me. I give it back to You.”

Today, I am learning that peace is not the absence of responsibility…it is the presence of surrender. Wellness is not just about what we do for our bodies, it’s also about what we release from our minds.

So I ask you....What are you carrying today that you were never meant to hold alone?

Pearl's Prayer:

Lord, You see the thoughts I carry, the ones I speak and the ones I don’t. Teach me how to release what was never mine to control. Quiet my mind, steady my heart, and help me rest in You. Let Your peace settle over me in a way that I can feel, in my thoughts, in my body, and in my spirit.

Amen.

Thank you God. I surrender. Thank you God for your peace.
