“The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.” Psalm 145:18, KJV
There are moments when I sit down to pray and cannot find the right words. My thoughts are scattered, my emotions are difficult to explain, and my heart feels heavier than I want to admit. Sometimes all I can manage is, “Lord, I need You.” Perhaps you have had moments like that too.
I have sat with my Bible open, wanting to pray but unable to arrange my thoughts into anything that sounded like a prayer. My mind was full, yet the words would not come. Finally, I whispered, “Lord, You already know.” And He did.
We sometimes believe prayer should sound polished and confident. We search for beautiful words, as though the right sentence will somehow make God listen more closely. But Psalm 145:18 offers a comforting reminder: God is already near to those who call upon Him in truth.
“In truth” does not mean that we must have everything figured out before we pray. It means we can come as we are. We do not have to hide our disappointment, soften our questions, or pretend our faith feels stronger than it does.
David’s prayers were often like that. He praised God with confidence, but he also spoke from places of fear, loneliness, confusion, and grief. He did not always come with answers. Sometimes he came with questions. Still, he kept turning toward God.
That comforts me because I do not always approach God with certainty either. There have been times when I prayed and nothing around me seemed to change. The situation remained difficult. The answer did not arrive when I expected it, and the path ahead was still unclear. In those moments, I wondered whether God had heard me.
But God’s nearness is not always revealed by an immediate change in our circumstances. Sometimes His presence appears as strength for another day. It may come through a quiet sense of peace, a timely word from a friend, or the assurance that we are being held while we wait. God’s presence may not remove the burden immediately, but it reminds us that we are not carrying it alone.
I am learning that I do not have to organize every emotion before entering God’s presence. I can say, “Lord, I am afraid.” “Lord, I am disappointed.” “Lord, I do not understand.” Even an unfinished prayer can be an honest prayer.
Maybe today you do not have many words. Maybe all you can whisper is the name of Jesus. That is enough to begin. God is not measuring the beauty of your language. He already knows what your heart is trying to say. Whatever you are carrying, you can bring it to Him truthfully. The God who knows your heart is close enough to hear even the words you cannot say.
Pearl's Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being near when I call upon You. Help me to come honestly, without hiding my fears, questions, or disappointments. When my circumstances do not change immediately, help me recognize the quiet ways Your presence is sustaining me. Remind me that I never have to carry life alone. In Jesus' name, Amen.

You are so correct. I like your comment : It is not always easy to accept what I see at first because most times I must sacrifice something. But, thank God He walks me through the 'letting go' process!
Keep me in prayer as I learn to let go and release the hurt and disappointment.
Blessing
In this regard, I find that the moments of needing the Lord have become more frequent than I can count. I'm realizing, though God may not always change the situation, He will change my perspective on the situation and I see it through His eyes. It is not always easy to accept what I see at first because most times I must sacrifice something. But, thank God He walks me through the 'letting go' process!
