Held by God

Have you ever had one of those moments when you wondered, “Lord, how am I still standing?” You know you are tired. You know you have been hurt. You know there have been days when you did not have all the answers. Yet somehow, you got up, kept moving, and made it through another day.

When I read Psalm 41:12, the words that stand out to me are, “Thou upholdest me.” David was going through a difficult time. He was sick, people were talking about him, and someone close to him had betrayed him. He had every reason to feel discouraged. Still, David recognized that God was holding him together. I understand that.

There have been times when I looked as though I was doing fine. I continued taking care of what needed to be done. I showed up for my family, my work, my church, and the people who depended on me. But inside, I was tired. My thoughts were heavy, and I was quietly asking God to help me keep going. Sometimes we do not realize how much God is carrying us until we look back. We thought it was our own strength that got us through. We thought we were simply pushing ourselves to keep moving. But the truth is, God had His hand underneath us the entire time.

David also said that God upheld him in his integrity. That does not mean David was perfect. We know he made mistakes. But his heart still belonged to God. When he was wrong, he knew how to come back, repent, and ask God to restore him.

That encourages me because none of us gets everything right. Sometimes people misunderstand our hearts. They may judge us by something we said, something we did, or by a story they heard from someone else. It can be painful when you know your intentions were not bad, but you cannot make everyone see or understand you. This verse reminds me that God knows.

God sees the heart behind the actions. He knows when we are sincerely trying to do what is right. He also knows the areas where we still need to grow. We do not have to pretend with Him. We can simply come honestly and say, “Lord, You know me. Help me to walk in a way that pleases You.”

The final part of the verse says that God set David before His face forever. I love that picture. It means David knew he was still in God’s presence. People may have turned their backs on him, but God had not turned His face away.

Maybe that is the word you need today. You may feel tired, misunderstood, or disappointed, but God has not forgotten you. You are still before His face. He sees you. He knows your heart. And even when you feel as though you are barely holding on, God is holding you. You may not always understand how you are still standing, but God has been underneath you, upholding you all along.

Father, thank You for holding me when I do not have the strength to hold myself together. You know my heart, my struggles, and my desire to please You. Help me to walk honestly before You. When I feel misunderstood or discouraged, remind me that Your face is still turned toward me. Keep me close and steady my steps. In Jesus’ name, amen.
