“Though It Tarry”

A Pearls of Grace Devotional Series Through The Book of Habakkuk

“Though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come…”  Habakkuk 2:3

One of the greatest challenges of faith is trusting God’s timing. We often want God to move quickly. Quick answers. Quick healing. Quick breakthroughs.
Quick resolution to pain and injustice. But Habakkuk chapter two reminds us that God’s promises often unfold in appointed seasons.

God tells Habakkuk: “Write the vision… though it tarry, wait for it.” In other words: what God has spoken is still valid even when fulfillment feels delayed. That truth speaks deeply to seasons where life feels stalled.

Sometimes we pray and see immediate movement. Other times we pray for months… years… or even longer. During those waiting seasons, doubt quietly tries to creep in. “Did God forget me?” “Is anything really changing?” “Will this situation ever improve?” Yet chapter two teaches us that delay is not the same as denial.

I think about marathon runners approaching difficult miles where exhaustion sets in and progress feels painfully slow. The finish line may still be far ahead, but experienced runners understand something important: slow movements forward is still movement.

Faith often feels that way. There are seasons where spiritual growth happens quietly. Prayers continue without immediate visible evidence. Strength develops gradually. Trust deepens slowly. But God is still moving even when progress feels hidden.

Habakkuk also gives us another powerful truth: “The just shall live by his faith.”  (Habakkuk 2:4). Not by feelings. Not by headlines. Not by fear. But by faith.

That means our stability cannot rest solely on what we see happening around us. Current events may feel unsettling. Society may seem unstable. Injustice may appear overwhelming at times. Yet believers are called to remain anchored in the character of God.

Faith becomes the steady footing beneath uncertain ground. Perhaps that is why chapter two closes with such peace: “The Lord is in his holy temple…”

God reminds Habakkuk: despite the confusion below, He is still sovereign above. The world may feel noisy and unstable…but heaven is not in panic. And because God remains steady, we can continue trusting Him while we wait.

What promise, prayer, or season of waiting has been difficult for you to trust God with? How can you strengthen your faith while waiting for God’s timing?

Pearls Prayer:

Father, help us trust You in seasons of waiting. When answers seem delayed and progress feels slow, remind us that Your timing is still perfect. Strengthen our faith so that fear and discouragement do not overtake us. Teach us to live by faith instead of by what we immediately see. Help us remain steady, prayerful, and hopeful while we wait for Your promises to unfold in their appointed season.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

I am the Vessel, God is the Grace.
