"Your Temple Needs Tender Care"

“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”  3 John 1:2 (KJV)

There are some messages that stay with you long after the program is over. Our HUDCAP / ROCK WEST  Women's Ministry Convention,  Elevate Her Health segment was one of those moments for me. It was not just information about food, juices, herbs, and movement. It felt like a loving reminder from God: take care of the body I have given you.

So often, we think of health only when something hurts, when a diagnosis comes, or when our energy feels low. But this session gently turned our attention back to daily stewardship.

We talked about starting the day with lemon water or green juice, giving the body something fresh and living before the pressures of the day begin. We were reminded that what we eat matters, and so does how little we move. We learned about simple natural supports horseradish and radish for colds, beet juice as a cleanser, black seed for healthy fats and support for hair and nails, and dates as a natural sweetener. We even heard about adding lion’s mane and fruit powders into smoothies for added nourishment.

It was practical, yes, but it was also spiritual. Because the truth is, our health habits often reveal how we see ourselves. If I am honest, there are days when I am so busy caring for everyone else, meeting deadlines, attending programs, and carrying responsibilities that I forget my own body is speaking to me. Fatigue speaks. Sluggishness speaks. Tension speaks. A body that is not nourished has a way of whispering before it starts crying out.

Maybe that is why this scripture feels so tender: “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health…” God’s desire for us is not only spiritual survival. He cares about our wholeness. He cares about the vessel.

When I think about the body as a temple, I do not just think about appearance. I think about reverence. The temple was not treated carelessly. It was attended to. It was kept. It was honored. In the same way, this body, my one body, my one earthly temple, deserves mindful care. Not worship, but stewardship.

What would change if we approached our health as holy work? Maybe we would stop treating rest like laziness. Maybe we would stop ignoring movement as if it were optional.
Maybe we would think twice before filling our bodies with what drains instead of nourishes. Maybe we would begin to see every healthy choice as an act of gratitude to God.

This does not mean perfection. It means awareness. It means pausing long enough to ask: What am I placing into the temple? What am I withholding from it? What habits are helping me live stronger, clearer, and more faithfully?

Juicing for your health is more than a trend when seen through this lens. It becomes a symbol. Just as fresh juice pulls goodness from what is living, God wants to draw life out of us too. But life flows better when we are attentive. When we hydrate. When we move. When we fuel well. When we stop dismissing our bodies as unimportant while asking them to carry so much. Our souls matter deeply. But scripture reminds us that our health matters too.

Today, I hear God’s invitation clearly: care for the temple with tenderness. Start small if you must. Drink the water. Take the walk. Add the greens. Choose what heals. Choose what strengthens. Choose what honors the gift of this one body God has entrusted to you. Because grace is not only for your spirit. Grace looks like caring for your body on purpose.

What is one small health habit I can begin today to better care for my temple? In what ways have I neglected my body while tending to everything else? How can I see healthy choices as an act of gratitude and worship?

Pearl's Prayer

Lord, thank You for the gift of this body, this temple You have entrusted to me. Help me to honor You in how I care for myself. Give me wisdom to choose what nourishes, discipline to move with intention, and grace to make healthier choices one day at a time. Teach me to see my health as part of my worship.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

I will honor God by caring for the temple He has given me.
