"The Word: When Scripture Speaks Back"

Published on May 8, 2026 at 5:00 AM

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”  John 1:1

As this week comes to a close, I find myself asking a simple but searching question…What has the Word meant to me this week? Not what I read. Not what I highlighted. But where did it actually meet me?

Was it in a quiet morning moment or somewhere in the middle of a busy day? Did I pause long enough to hear it or did I move too quickly past it? Because there is a difference between opening the Word and allowing the Word to open you.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”  Psalm 119:105

The Word is not just something we read, it is Someone we encounter. It is living. It is active. It is present. When we open Scripture, we are not just gathering information about God, we are being invited into His presence. Yet, there are days when the Word sits open but our hearts feel closed. Days when we read but don’t absorb. When we hear but don’t fully respond.

Still, the Word remains faithful. Waiting. Speaking. Inviting.

The Word is like a mirror but not the kind that only reflects your outward image. It reflects your heart. Some reflections are easy to accept others cause us to pause. The Word does not only affirm, it also refines. It gently shows us where we’ve grown and where we still need grace. You may come searching for answers and instead, you find clarity about yourself. Not to condemn you but to restore you.

On the road to Emmaus (Luke 24), two disciples walked in quiet confusion after everything they had hoped for seemed lost. As they walked, Jesus came alongside them and began to open the Scriptures. Later they said, “Did not our hearts burn within us… while He opened the Scriptures to us?”

That is what the Word does. It awakens something within you. It brings warmth to what felt distant. It gives understanding where there was uncertainty.

Before stepping into a new week take a moment and ask: What did God reveal to me through His Word this week? What did I learn about Him? And more importantly what did I learn about myself?

The Word is not only something we return to, it is something that reshapes us over time. It guides when the path feels unclear. It corrects when we begin to drift. It comforts when life feels heavy. And when we allow it to truly settle within us, it begins to show up, not just in what we say but in how we live.

As this week comes to a close the Word remains. Still speaking. Still guiding. Still inviting you deeper. As you step into a new week carry it with you, not just in your hands but in your heart.

Pearl's Prayer:

Lord, Thank You for Your Word that continues to meet me where I am.
Forgive me for the moments I rushed past Your voice. Help me to slow down,  to listen and to receive what You are speaking.

Open my heart as I open Your Word. Let it shape me, guide me, and draw me closer to You. May it not only rest in my hands but live within my heart.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

I am the Vessel… God is the Grace.

Powerful lesson on taking time to let the WORD reshape you. He says His “Words will not return to Him void”.
