“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” Isaiah 26:3 (KJV)
Some weeks move quietly. Other weeks arrive layered. This was one of those weeks. The kind where the headlines feel heavier than usual. News reports filled with wars and rumors of wars. Stories unfolding across the world that remind us how fragile peace can feel. Even when we try not to absorb it, the weight finds its way in. At the same time, life continues asking things of us.
This week my calendar has been full with preparations for the upcoming women’s convention, messages to send, details to finalize, responsibilities to carry. Ministry work is meaningful, but anyone who serves knows it can also be demanding. There are moments when the heart is full of purpose, yet the mind is quietly tired.
Somewhere between the headlines and the obligations, I felt that familiar tightening of the spirit. Not panic. But a kind of restless awareness. The world feels uncertain. Responsibilities feel pressing. And the soul wonders how to hold it all together.
One evening this week, I paused long enough to open my Bible, not searching for a long study, just a place for my thoughts to settle. My eyes rested on a simple promise in Isaiah: “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee.” Perfect peace. Not perfect circumstances. That distinction matters.
Scripture never promises that the world will stop shaking. History reminds us that every generation has faced its own storms. But the promise is something deeper. God offers peace that steadies the mind even when the world feels unsteady. Peace is not the absence of responsibility. Peace is the presence of God within the responsibility. That realization shifted something for me this week.
The work of preparing for the women’s convention is still there. The emails still need sending. The planning still needs attention. The world’s headlines are still unfolding. But grace reminds me that I am not carrying the weight of the world. I am only responsible for the peace God has placed in my hands. When the mind stays anchored in Him, something remarkable happens. The noise softens. Perspective returns. And the heart remembers that God has always carried His people through uncertain times.
Every generation has lived through moments that felt like the world was shifting beneath their feet. Yet somehow, through wars, upheavals, and personal trials, God’s faithfulness remained steady. He remains steady now.
So tonight, as this week closes, I am choosing a quiet practice. Not worrying about everything happening everywhere. Just staying faithful to what is right in front of me. Preparing. Serving. Trusting. Allowing grace to meet me in the middle of an ordinary week that felt a little heavier than usual. Because peace, I am learning, doesn’t always arrive when the world becomes calm. Sometimes peace arrives when we place our minds back in the hands of God. And that is more than enough.
Pearl's Prayer
Lord, when the world feels heavy and responsibilities feel pressing, quiet our hearts. Help us remember that You are still in control of every moment and every season. Keep our minds stayed on You, and fill us with the peace that only You can give.
Amen.
