“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” — Psalm 46:1 (KJV)
This week has been quieter in my spirit—focused, pensive… the kind of week where you can be surrounded by holiday cheer and still feel the weight of what’s ahead. In the middle of festivities, I’m also standing at the doorway of new beginnings: a new year, new challenges, fresh goals, and a desire to live with more intention.
And yet, the daily news has been loud. The messages have felt fearful—especially for people who are often pushed to the margins: brown-skinned communities, the poor, immigrants, and the elderly. It’s hard to ignore that kind of noise. It can sit in your chest, even when you’re trying to celebrate.
But in the middle of that tension, God gave me a reminder—one of those quiet “anchors” He places in your week. One of my Elders from church, a dear friend, was being sworn in to serve as a councilman for his ward. That moment felt promising, not because people are perfect, but because it reminded me that God still raises up servants—ordinary people willing to stand in the gap, lead with integrity, and care about their community.
This is where my faith is settling as the year turns: I can be aware without being overwhelmed. I can stay informed without surrendering my peace. I can acknowledge real concerns and still hold tightly to a deeper truth—God is in control, and He is present.
So my prayer for 2026 is simple: Lord, don’t let me lose sight of You. When the world feels uncertain, pull me closer. When fear tries to disciple my thoughts, teach me trust again. And when I’m tempted to withdraw, show me how to live brave—through prayer, kindness, service, and steady faith.
This week I’m choosing: to take the news in small doses, to pray more than I panic, and to walk into the new year with God—one faithful step at a time.
Reflection:
What has been stealing your peace lately—and what would it look like to place it back into God’s hands tonight?
Prayer:
Lord, You are my refuge. When the world feels heavy and the headlines feel frightening, keep my heart steady. Cover the vulnerable, strengthen the weary, protect families, and guide leaders. Help me walk closely with You in this new year—focused, faithful, and full of Your peace. In Jesus’ name, amen.
