Do You Know God?

“And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”  John 17:3

The other day I found myself thinking about how easy it is to know about someone without truly knowing them. We may know a person's name, where they live, what they do for a living, and even recognize their face in a crowd. We can follow their social media, read their biography, and hear stories about them. Yet all of that information does not necessarily mean we know them personally.

The same can be true with God. Many people know Bible stories. They know about Noah's ark, David and Goliath, Daniel in the lions' den, and the miracles of Jesus. They can quote scripture, attend church regularly, and participate in ministry. Yet Jesus' words remind us that eternal life is rooted in something deeper: knowing God.

There is a difference between information and relationship. I was reminded of this while looking through an old family photo album. As I turned the pages, I saw pictures of relatives I had heard about all my life. I knew their names and their stories. But then there were photographs of people I had actually spent time with, people whose voices I could still hear and whose laughter I could still remember. The pictures stirred something deeper because there had been a relationship.

Knowing God is like that. God does not simply invite us to learn facts about Him. He invites us to walk with Him. He wants us to recognize His voice when He speaks through His Word. He wants us to trust His character when life becomes uncertain. He wants us to experience His presence in our daily lives.

Moses knew God in the wilderness. David knew Him as a Shepherd. Daniel knew Him in captivity. Mary knew Him through surrender. Their faith was not built merely on what they had heard. It was built on what they had experienced.

The beautiful thing is that God desires to be known. He reveals Himself through Scripture. He reveals Himself through answered prayers. He reveals Himself through His faithfulness during difficult seasons and His peace during sleepless nights. The longer we walk with Him, the more we discover that His mercy is real, His promises are trustworthy, and His love never fails.

So today, perhaps the question is not, "Do I know about God?" but rather, "Do I know Him?" Do you recognize His voice? Do you trust His heart? Do you seek His presence when no one else is around?

Relationship grows through time spent together. The same is true with God. Every prayer, every moment in His Word, and every act of trust deepens our understanding of who He is. And the more we know Him, the more we discover that He has known us all along.

The greatest treasure is not knowing facts about God, it is knowing the God behind the facts.

Pearl's Prayer:

Father, I don't want to simply know about You. I want to know You personally. Draw me closer to You through Your Word, through prayer, and through daily experience. Help me recognize Your voice, trust Your heart, and walk with You each day. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Today’s devotional is powerfully written. I love your last quote—“ The greatest treasure is not knowing facts about God, it is knowing the God behind the facts. ”

When I look back and see the many sins God has forgiven, it invokes an insatiable desire to really know that person.
