"When Strength Is Not Enough"

“Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His face continually.”               1 Chronicles 16:11

There are moments when your strength simply runs out. Not dramatically, not all at once, but quietly. It shows up in the pause before you get out of bed. In the sigh you didn’t realize you were holding. In the weight of responsibility that feels just a little heavier than usual.

You’re still moving, still showing up, still doing what needs to be done. But something inside you is tired. In that quiet space, a question rises: Where do I go when my strength is not enough?

In 1 Samuel 30, David returned to Ziklag to find everything gone, his home burned, his possessions taken, and his family carried away. Even the men who once stood with him were so overwhelmed with grief that they began to speak of turning against him.

David was surrounded but completely alone in that moment. There was no quick solution. No immediate answer. No visible way forward. But Scripture tells us something powerful: “David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.”

He didn’t ignore the pain. He didn’t deny the loss. But he made a choice. He turned toward God for strength. Thus the spiritual shift: from panic to prayer. From grief to guidance. From fear to faith. And from that place of seeking, direction came. From that place of weakness, strength was restored.

Seeking God is like reaching for a steady hand in the dark. When the room is unfamiliar and the path is unclear, you don’t move confidently, you move carefully. You reach. You search. You extend your hand until you find something solid… something sure.

When you finally feel that hand holding yours, something shifts. The room hasn’t changed. The path hasn’t cleared. But your confidence does because you’re no longer moving alone. God’s strength is not always about removing the darkness. Sometimes it is about guiding you through it.

Seeking the Lord is not a one-time act. It is a continual posture. It is choosing, again and again, to turn your thoughts toward Him. To whisper a prayer in the middle of your day. To lean into His presence when your own strength feels insufficient. Sometimes, seeking God looks quiet… almost invisible to others. It looks like steadying your heart. It looks like choosing faith when your emotions are unsettled. His strength meets you right there, in the middle of what you’re carrying.

Pearl's Prayer:

Father, There are moments when I feel overwhelmed and unsure of what to do next. Teach me to seek You in those moments, not after everything is resolved, but right in the middle of it. When my strength feels small, remind me that Yours is more than enough. Strengthen my heart, steady my thoughts, and guide me forward as I keep my eyes on You.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
