"When Praise Tells The Story Words Cannot"

“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.”  Psalm 150

There are moments when words are not enough. Because what you feel runs deeper than language can hold. I remember standing as the music began to play softly. There was no rush, no performance, just a quiet stirring within me. Before I sung or spoke a single word, my hands began to move. Not randomly. Not casually. But with meaning. In that moment, I realized, I wasn’t just moving, I was speaking.

We often think of praise as something we say or sing. But Scripture never limits praise to sound alone. Praise can be seen. It can be carried in lifted hands, in bowed heads, in bodies that move in agreement with what the heart believes. For me, it has often come through my praise dance woven with sign language. A sacred expression where every motion carries intention. Because sometimes, what God has done in your life cannot be fully captured in sentences. Sometimes, it must be expressed though the lifting of hands or movement.

There have been moments when the praise and worship was so powerful, so spiritually moving, that you could feel it. The music wasn’t just sound. It carried weight. The atmosphere shifted. The presence of God felt near, almost tangible. Yet, I found myself looking around. Some were still seated. Still watching. Still quiet.

It made me pause. I thought, if we were at a ballpark, and our team was winning… there would be no hesitation. We would stand. We would shout. We would wave our hands without thinking twice.

But here, in a moment filled with the presence of God, something in us sometimes holds back. Not because God is not worthy. But because we are still learning how to respond to Him, even in our reverence.  I had to ask myself, not why they were sitting,  but where in my own life have I learned to hold back my praise?

In 2 Samuel 6, David danced before the Lord with all his might as the ark was brought back. It was not reserved or calculated, it was full, visible, and deeply personal. To others, it may not have made sense. But to David, it was the only response that matched what he felt. That’s what true praise looks like. It is not about appearance. It is about authentic response.

Praise has become, for me, a story told without words. When my hands begin to move, they are not just gestures, they are sentences. When my body shifts in rhythm, it is not performance, it is narration. I am telling the story of God’s goodness and what He has done for me. I am expressing the moments He carried me. I am declaring, without speaking, that He is still worthy.  Every movement holds meaning. Every gesture becomes a testimony. And what cannot be spoken,  is still fully understood.

Praise is not confined to your voice, it is revealed through your response. It may sound like a song. It may look like stillness. It may move through you in tears, moaning, or the building up of joyful emotions. What matters is not how it appears to others, but that it is real before God.

Where has praise been trying to rise in your life? Have you been holding it back because it doesn’t fit a familiar form or norms. Is God inviting you to express it in a way that is uniquely yours?

Pearl's Prayer:

Lord, Teach me how to praise You beyond what is comfortable or expected.
Let my life become an expression of gratitude, seen and unseen. When words fall short, let my heart still speak. Receive every offering of praise, in every form, as something that honors You.

Amen.
