“For I know the plans I have for you… plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
There are seasons in life where nothing seems to be moving. Not chaotic. Not broken. Just… still. Beneath the surface, there’s a quiet question that lingers: Is anything changing? It’s the kind of season where you’re not where you used to be… but you’re not yet where you thought you would be either. A space in between. If you’re not careful, you can begin to believe that this space means nothing is happening at all.
I once watched a pot sit on the stove, covered, with no visible movement. No bubbling over, no steam escaping, no sound to suggest anything was happening inside. From the outside, it looked inactive, unchanged. But when the lid was finally lifted, everything had transformed. What had been raw was now tender. What had been separate had come together. What had seemed still had actually been in process the entire time. The work had been happening… just not where I could see it.
In the Book of Jeremiah, this promise was not spoken in comfort, it was spoken in captivity. God’s people were living in exile. Building lives in a place that didn’t feel like home. Holding memories of what was… while trying to make sense of what now was. It was a season that felt like waiting. Like being in-between. And in that very place, God speaks: “I know the plans I have for you…” Not plans paused. Not plans forgotten. Not plans undone. Plans still unfolding. Even when their surroundings suggested loss, God was still writing their future.
What feels like stillness to you may be movement to God. What feels hidden to you may be intentional to Him. Just because you don’t see movement does not mean there is no progress. God often does His deepest work beneath the surface, where visibility is low but transformation is real. The waiting season is not empty. It is active with purpose. You are not being overlooked. You are being developed.
If you find yourself in a quiet season, where answers are slow, movement feels minimal, and clarity hasn’t fully come. Pause before you label it as nothing. God is not inactive in your life. He is intentional. Even now, in the unseen places, He is shaping, preparing, and aligning things for what’s ahead. You may not see it yet. You may not feel it yet. But it is already in motion. The wait is not empty, God is writing in it.
Pearl's Prayer:
Father, Help me to trust You in the seasons where I cannot see what You are doing. When things feel still, remind me that You are always at work. Strengthen my faith to believe in Your plans, even when I don’t fully understand the process. Thank You that my future is secure in Your hands.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
