“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God.” Isaiah 41:10
Some moments in life do not knock before they enter. They arrive unannounced, unexpected news, sudden changes, quiet disruptions that alter the rhythm of your day. That changes the trajectory of ones life. One conversation, one phone call, one shift and everything feels different. You were moving forward. Your life plans were being full filled.....and then something shifted. In that moment, what rises is not always fear, it is the quiet question: What now?
It is like walking on familiar ground when suddenly the path beneath you changes. The surface feels uneven. Your steps slow. Your confidence wavers. Not because you have forgotten how to walk, but because the ground no longer feels the same. Unexpected shifts have a way of doing that. They don’t always remove your strength but they challenge your footing.
In Acts 16:22–26, Paul and Silas were doing the work they had been called to do, teaching, serving, moving with purpose. Suddenly, everything changed. They were seized, beaten, and thrown into prison. No warning. No time to prepare. One moment they were walking in ministry, and the next they were sitting in chains.
What stands out is not just the shift, it is what happened in the middle of it. At midnight, in a place they never expected to be, they began to pray and sing. Not because their situation had changed but because their awareness of God’s presence had not.
Their singing was not denial, it was a declaration. Though confined, they chose worship. They praised before the chains broke, shifting the atmosphere before their situation changed. Their voices became resistance against fear and a testimony to others that God was still present. Even there.
Suddenly, the ground beneath them shifted again. This time with purpose. An earthquake shook the prison. Chains were broken. Doors were opened. God showed up not just in their release but in the very place where life had unexpectedly taken them.
Sometimes we look for God after things settle, but this is the moment to lift your voice. To praise Him in the middle of the shift. Why? Because He meets you right in the disruption. In the prison. In the pause. In the moment where nothing feels familiar anymore. God’s presence is not dependent on your circumstances. He is just as present in the unexpected as He is in the planned. So even now, offer Him your praise. Not because everything is resolved, but because He is still present.
Unexpected does not mean abandoned. When life shifts without warning, God is already present in the place you did not expect to be.
Pearl's Prayer:
Lord, when life shifts suddenly, help me to remember that You are already there. When I feel unsteady, anchor me in Your presence. Give me the strength to trust You even in unfamiliar places, and the peace to know that You are working. Even now.
Amen.
