“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might…” Ecclesiastes 9:10
There is a difference between being busy and being alive. Some days can be full of movement and still feel empty of strength. We check the boxes, meet the demands, and keep going, yet deep inside there can be a quiet weariness. That is why the thought of living life with vigor matters to me.
Vigor is more than energy. It is not rushing, striving, or proving something. It is a holy aliveness. It is living with purpose, showing up with heart, and meeting life with the strength God provides.
It makes me think of a tree in late spring. What we notice are the leaves and branches, but the real life is happening beneath the surface. The roots are drawing water. Strength is moving quietly upward. What looks beautiful on the outside is being sustained by something deeper within.
That is what spiritual vigor feels like. It is the life of God moving through us, even when we have known weariness. It is not pretending to be strong. It is being rooted in the One who gives strength.
I think of Caleb. At eighty-five years old, after years of waiting and wandering, he still spoke with courage and faith. In Joshua 14:11, he declared that he still had strength for the journey ahead. Caleb’s vigor was not just physical. It was spiritual. Time had passed, challenges had come, but his spirit had not grown dull. He still believed God. He still wanted what God had promised.
That challenges me. Living with vigor does not mean we never get tired. It means we do not let weariness define us. It means asking God to renew our joy, our focus, and our strength. It may look like taking care of your body, protecting your peace, or simply rising again after disappointment. It may look like choosing purpose over passivity and faith over dullness.
The Bible calls us to do what is in our hands with our might, but it also reminds us where that strength comes from. We live fully when we stay connected to God. Perhaps living with vigor is really keeping your heart awake to the life God has given you and trusting Him to renew what feels tired within you.
Pearl's Prayer:
Lord, renew my strength. Where I have grown weary, breathe fresh life into me. Help me to live with purpose, joy, and courage. Keep my spirit awake and rooted in You, so that I do not merely go through life, but live it fully through Your strength.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
