"The Gift Of Love"

“Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God, He that                         loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.”                                    1 John 4:7–8 (KJV)

Have you ever received a gift that you knew could never be repaid? Not because of its cost,
But because of the heart behind it. I remember holding a gift, simple in appearance, yet filled with intention. It wasn’t extravagant. It didn’t shine on the outside. But I could feel it. The thoughtfulness, the care, the quiet sacrifice that made it meaningful. In that moment, I realized something: the greatest gifts are not measured by what they are but by the love that carries them.

Love, in its truest form, is a gift. Not the kind wrapped in paper and tied with a bow. But the kind wrapped in patience. Tied together with grace. Given freely, even when it costs something.

This week, I found myself reflecting on love, not the easy kind, not the love that flows when everything feels right, but the kind of love that stretches you. The kind that asks you to show up when you’re tired, to forgive when it still hurts, to extend kindness when it isn’t returned. That kind of love does not come from us alone. It is given to us first.

I think about the woman with the alabaster box in Luke 7:36–50. She entered a room where she was not welcomed, carrying a gift that others would not understand. As she poured out the oil, she was not just offering something valuable. She was pouring out love. Love that had been shaped by forgiveness. Love that had been born out of grace she had received.

Others saw waste. Jesus saw love. Isn’t that the tension we live in? The world measures love by what is deserved. God measures love by what is given. There are moments in our lives when loving others will feel like pouring out something precious. Your time. Your patience. Your understanding. And there may be voices, internal or external, that whisper, “It’s too much… they don’t deserve it… hold back.”

But love does not operate on deserving. Love flows from knowing that we have already received more than we could ever give. I am reminded that God did not wait for me to be perfect before loving me. He did not measure my worth before extending grace. He simply loved… fully, freely, and without condition.

That love now lives in us. The gift of love is not just something we receive. It is something we carry. Something we choose. Something we give. Even in small ways: A gentle word. A moment of patience. A decision to forgive. A willingness to see someone beyond their flaws. These are the quiet offerings of love that often go unseen… but never unnoticed by God.

So today, I ask myself and I invite you to ask with me: What does it look like for me to give love, not based on what I receive, but based on what I’ve already been given? Because when we begin to love from that place… Love becomes more than an action. It becomes a reflection.  A reflection of Gods love.

Pearl's Prayer

Lord, Thank You for loving me in ways I did not earn and could never repay. Teach me to carry that same love into my everyday life. Help me to give freely, forgive deeply, and extend grace even when it feels difficult. Let my life reflect the love You have poured into me, so that others may feel Your presence through me.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
