Perfect Peace In Troubled Times

You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Isaiah 26:3

Some days the world feels loud with trouble.  The news cycles fast, emotions run high, and uncertainty sits in the room like an uninvited guest.  You can love God deeply and still feel the tremble of "what if" in your chest.  But God never promised a trouble free life.  He promised a kept mind, a steady heart, and a peace the world can't manufacture.  Perfect peace doesn't mean nothing shakes around you.  It means you are held steady while it shakes.

The disciples were experienced fishermen, but this storm was different, violent waves, water pouring in, panic rising. And Jesus? He was asleep in the boat. They woke Him with the ache we’ve all felt: “Master, don’t You care that we’re perishing?” Jesus stood, spoke to the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still.” And the storm obeyed (Mark 4:35-41).

Then He asked them a question that still reaches us today: “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” Not because the storm wasn’t real, but because His presence was more real than the storm.

Troubled times are like waves that slap the side of a boat, relentless, loud, and exhausting. But an anchor doesn’t stop the storm; it stops the drifting. It holds you in place when everything else is moving. Perfect peace is God’s anchor for your mind. When your thoughts start racing, peace comes as you “stay” your mind.....fix it, settle it, return it.....back to Him again and again.

So when the waters rise: Stay your mind on His character for He is faithful. Stay your mind on His word for He keeps His promises. Stay your mind on His presence for He is in the boat.

What “storm” has been making your thoughts drift lately? What would it look like today to “stay” your mind on God......one choice at a time? If Jesus is with you, what is still true even in trouble?

Prayer:

Lord, You see the troubled times around me and the anxious thoughts within me. I confess I can get overwhelmed by what I can’t control. But today I choose to stay my mind on You. Be the anchor for my heart and the steadying of my thoughts. Speak, “Peace, be still,” over the storm in me and around me. Teach me to trust You, not just when life is calm, but when waves are rising. Keep me in perfect peace as I fix my focus on You.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
