From Wounded To Wise

"Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the ground and paid homage to the King, and said, 'Let my Lord King David live forever!"

1 King 1:31 (ESV)

Bathsheba's name often enters the story through pain, through  chapter where she is acted upon more than heard. In 2 Samuel 11, she is caught in the consequences of someone else's power and choices, and her grief runs deep: a scandal, a death, a loss. But God does not leave Bathsheba as a foot note in someone else's failure. He gives her a future, and eventually, He gives her a voice.

Years later, in 1 Kings 1, a new crisis rises: the throne is being taken, promises are being threatened, and the future of her son is at stake. This is where Bathsheba steps forward, not as a silent woman in the background, but as a wise woman who speaks with clarity, courage, and purpose. She goes before the king. She names what is true. She advocates for what is right. Bathsheba doesn’t shout, she speaks. And her voice helps position Solomon for the assignment God has for him.

Bathsheba is like a bell that was cracked, once it could only echo pain. But in God’s hands, that same bell is recast, and now it carries a clearer sound. The metal didn’t disappear. The fire didn’t destroy it. It reshaped it, until the bell could ring again.

Elevating her voice doesn’t mean pretending the wound never happened. It means refusing to let the wound be the end of the story. God can take what tried to silence you and turn it into wisdom, discernment, and holy boldness. There may be a conversation you’ve been avoiding, a boundary you need to name, a truth you need to say with love, or a promise you need to protect. Like Bathsheba, you can speak with humility and authority.

Where have I allowed my past to mute my voice?  What truth do I need to speak, wisely, prayerfully, and without fear?  Who is depending on my obedience to use my voice?

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for seeing me beyond my hardest chapters. Heal what has wounded my confidence and restore what has been silenced. Give me wisdom like Bathsheba, courage to speak truth, discernment to choose the right moment, and humility to honor You in my words. Elevate my voice in prayer, in my home, in my relationships, and in my calling. Let my words align with Your will and bring life.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
